About Unit Pumps
Also known as Electronic Unit Pumps (EUP), these components represent a modular approach to high-pressure fuel injection. Unlike a centralised injection pump, these pump systems utilise individual high-pressure pumps for each engine cylinder, driven directly by the engine’s camshaft. This design allows for exceptionally high injection pressures and precise electronic control over fuel delivery, making it a preferred choice for heavy-duty commercial vehicles and industrial engines.
The Unit Pump bridges traditional mechanical pumping and modern electronic management. By locating the pump close to the injector and controlling it via an integrated solenoid, the system minimises high-pressure line length, resulting in sharper injection timing and improved thermal efficiency. Because each pump operates independently, maintaining the health of these individual units is critical to ensuring balanced engine performance and preventing excessive vibration or power loss.
